I knew it was inevitable. Really I did. But I had no idea it would come to soon. Turns out that on Thursday August 28, 2008 I was mathematically eliminated. No, not from any kind of playoff race, but truly, mathematically eliminated. From being of any use to my 6th grade Kenzo in doing her math homework. You see, in the past few days, she has brought home "ALGEBRA."

Whew, it’s been a long week. I’ll have more on this later, I think, but it looks like I might be getting a new (to me) car sometime next week. I’ve got it with me over the weekend to think it over, and you know how that tends to go.

I got here to hospice in Cincinnati on Tuesday. When I came, my dad was not entirely incoherent. We had a 20 second conversation.

--I'm glad you came back, thomas.

--I'm glad to be here.

--Thank you for coming.

--I want you to know I love you, Daddy.

--I love you too Thomas.

I moved out of my old apartment almost two years ago, but I’ve yet to bother getting a new driver’s license. It’s not that I haven’t thought about it, either. I simply haven’t gotten all the pieces together at the same time. Because the driver’s license office doesn’t accept credit/debit cards, I have to remember a checkbook.

Monroe Carell, the former CEO of Central Parking Corp. and a Vanderbilt board member, died this morning at his home. One of the city's most influential and controversial business leaders, Carell turned Central Parking from a relatively small enterprise to the richest company in its field, while drawing criticism for turning large swaths of American downtowns into ugly surface lots.

I'd like to think most of us have moved past the idea that support and encouragement of our troops - the men and women who volunteer to serve in the military and not the hired contractors who serve to make a profit - does not mean support for the war in Iraq. I have never supported it and still cannot.
