In baseball when a player is caught between two bases it is called being caught in a pickle. Usually the player runs back and forth between two players playing catch with the ball over his head as the distance between them gets closer and closer. The base runner knows he is about to run out of time unless something unforeseen happens.

Doing what I do, supporting customer networks, requires a lot of butt-time in my trusty Subaru Outback traveling around the Greater Nashville Metro area, sniffing out problems to fix. Occasionally I see something of vital interest that is granted documentation in these pages, but most of the drive time is routine and humdrum.

Certified layspeakers who want to preach this June at the Tennessee Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church can either submit a manuscript or a video, or both, for consideration. Naturally, I assumed a video would carry more weight, and my father, a retired UM pastor, was looking forward to taping me.
