“I‘m going to make this pencil disappear” is one of the best lines uttered by a villain in a movie. Heath Ledger said it, and introduces the creepiest villain I’ve seen in a movie in a long, long time.

Imagine moving to a foreign country where the people speak a different language from your own. While you may be able to get by for a while without learning the language of this country, you will be severely hampered. Asking for and receiving simple information will be a tedious and frustrating task. For example, assume you want to go to a movie. How do you get to the movie theater?

Last weekend, Sheryl and I were able to get out and see Get Smart, starring Steve Carrell, Anne Hathaway, and Dwayne Johnson (no longer The Rock, I suppose). We enjoyed it quite a bit and had fun. It was nice that it took the storyline somewhat seriously but still had fun with some of the conventions of the Get Smart TV show. I liked that they didn't try to shoehorn cameos by the original actors

Last evening I spent time with a noted movie actor's wife. He had just
died. She said, "actors never die, they just fade away." There may not
be an obituary for him although he has a 3 page list of movies and tv
programs he has been on.
"He was a character actor who played priests and policeman," she said.
