Texas's grand experiment to privatize electric utilities is going down in flames like a faulty transformer. In the past month three private electric companies have folded, leaving their consumers to pay "providers of last resort" 3x more than the patrons of public utilities.

People have been plunking about $400 a week into the meters, or more than $6 per meter per week, on average.
