My column in this week's Tennessean:

The past couple of weeks (and the next couple, for that matter) have been (and will be) the most active professional and personal periods in my life that I can remember in many years.  Reminds me very much of when I began Sumner Systems Management some dozen years ago.

This would be better with a photograph. Alas, I didn't even try to get a shot of it. Soon, I need to get serious about improving my night photography skills.

Ever been to Lieland?

Becky has a theory - this one does not advocate breaking any of the ten commandments or blaming the pope for stuff.  The theory goes that every conflict and many negative emotions come from one’s expectations not being met.  And all sense of security, contentment and bliss occurs when one’s expectations are being met or exceeded. 

With media swirling around us and instant gratification at our fingertips, what do we do? What should be our response? An interesting and sobering reflection. What do you think? What do you think of her analysis of youth culture? Is there an alternative out there? Can we wake up? How?

May 4th - May 10th

There are two words I need to hear from you if we’re going to be close friends.  I’ll love you and even like you if I don’t hear these two words, but, I’ll admit, I won’t feel all that loved.  I need to hear “sorry” and “thanks.”
