I’ve been working on a semi-top secret project for the last couple of weeks. (Semi because I told my husband, sister and Slartibartfast about it.)

Part of this project involves research into some fan boards for various reality shows. I was reading one today and came across this nugget:

It opens with clashing cymbals and some thundering beats of a timpani followed by a few bars of trumpet fanfare that make us, in some weird Pavlovian manner, turn into fans of sports we completely forgot existed for the previous three years and fifty weeks. We hear those trumpets and something makes the room go silent so we can catch up with how the Norwegian handball team is doing.

I’m purusing the news headlines this morning, when I get to this nugget, otherwise described as a Gag Order from the EPA.

A nugget of common wisdom in the world of computer programming speaks to the division of programmers into two basic categories (we do like things in binary…) — those who code because they love it, live it, and would be doing it even without the paycheck, and those who do it because someone told them it was good way to make a living.

I skimmed The Tennessean today to find a nugget of joy out of Smyrna. Check this out:

When discussing the harassment of a private company by government, I neglected this telling little nugget from Maxine Waters.
